10 ways to build counting skills into daily routines

Math is Everywhere!

You don't need flashcards or special toys to teach counting—everyday routines are the perfect classroom! When you count throughout the day, your child learns that numbers are useful, meaningful, and fun. These simple activities transform ordinary moments into powerful learning opportunities.

Tip: Consistency matters more than perfection. Even counting a few things each day builds strong number sense over time.

Counting Milestones by Age

Ages 2-3

  • Says some number words
